Mothering is a BEACH!

This weekend we headed to the beach with the babe! As soon as we sat down, he stuffed his mouth with sand. It would have been cute if he didn’t like it, but he sat there shoveling it in his mouth. We have taken him a few times when he was smaller, but this was the first time he seemed to actually enjoy it!

It makes it more fun as a parent, but also more exhausting chasing a crawling baby around. Gone are the days of laying out, listening to the waves while reading a book. Now that he is mobile I find myself dressing more practically since it’s all about comfort and moving quick! One of my favorite summer trends has been eyelet, and I was excited to find this cute blouse at Zara on sale for $25. To be honest I’m not even sure it’s a cover-up, however I wore it as such, and it was the perfect material for a day at the beach.  Unfortunately I didn’t see it on their site, however I did find it on and have linked it below, along with similar styles!

Summer’s Hottest Trend: Hair Scarves

Processed with VSCO with e3 preset

WHOA! It’s been a hot minute since I have written a blog post, and BOY is there a lot to catch you up on. If you follow my @anabudget Instagram page then you know I gave birth to a baby boy back in October 2017. He is now 9 months old, has a mouth of teeth and is crawling like a mad man. It is crazy how fast time is flying by and how my heart could seriously explode with happiness.  Being a first time mom has brought me so much joy and exhaustion, taught me patience and filled our house with more love than we could ever imagine. I will be sharing more on that soon!

BUT, I know you have been waiting on pins and needles for this, so here it is: HAIR SCARVES!   giphy

This has seriously been my favorite summer trend for 2018, bringing me out of hiding to share my favorites for under $50! Below are pics of how I styled one of my favorites (from my mom’s closet) at FolkTale Winery in Carmel CA.

My husband and I recently took a trip to Seattle and as soon as I landed I fell in love with the Emerald City! My husband has been working on a project there, and he wanted me to come out and sight- see with him for the long Fourth of July weekend! The first day he had to work so I went exploring and found myself shopping (I don’t know how that happened). Later on that day we took the monorail to the Space Needle. We unfortunately didn’t go up, but the ride there was so fun, and beautiful. We walked around the grounds and I treated this pregnant belly to some cotton candy! It was seriously the perfect day and the weather that entire weekend was amazing! The locals kept telling us we came at the “best time!”

The next day we took a ferry to Bainbridge, which is an island a few miles from Seattle. Again, the weather was delightful! It’s the sweetest little place with shops and restaurants. We actually ended up at a Thai restaurant of all places, and it was delicious! When we returned to Seattle we went to Pike Place Market! Most people visit to see the fish market, but hello, I needed to see the famous, GUM WALL! (Located next to the market).  It’s a touristy trap, but so worth it, and it smells minty fresh (gross)! They recently cleaned all the gum off the brick walls to see if there had been any damage from years and years of bubble gum. But, we overheard a tour guide telling tourist it was covered the next day! If you do decide to go, don’t be a fool like me and just pick any wall to take your pic. The actual gum wall is about three walls in (Google it!)
That evening we did the Underground Tour  (click the link if interested), which taught us some of the history of Seattle. We learned that the city rebuilt on top of itself after the Great Fire of 1889. CRAZY! We also found out where the word “skid row” came from, and because we took the night tour we learned about the booming business of prostitution during that time! AWESOME! The tour was an hour, and if you’re over 21 you get a free drink (BONUS if you’re not pregnant.)
The third day we went back to Pike Place Market to get flowers to take to our hosts in Bellingham (2 hours North and way worth the trip!). The flowers there are the most beautiful and inexpensive I have ever seen! I seriously wanted to buy them all. We went with a patriotic bouquet like the one you see here, and it was only $15 and HUGE! We rented a car and drove out a few miles to Kerry Park overlook to take one last skyline picture. Seriously a must- see if you’re ever in the Seattle area. It was so clear, and beautiful. Then we headed North to Bellingham for the Fourth of July!
One thing to note about my husband and me is we are not the adventurous type! We are city- slickers through and through which is strange because we both grow up in Arizona camping and hiking. We stayed with the parents of one of my husband’s best friends growing up. When we drove up, we were in awe of the fresh air, and their beautiful house located right on the lake! They had all the stuff you need to have fun outdoors: kayaks, boats, paddle boards, etc… it was insane! We decided to take a kayak out on the water and Nick paddled while I took these selfies haha. Needless to say we didn’t get far, but it felt so invigorating being on the lake with baby in my belly and my husband!
We spent the next few days eating, boating, hiking, eating, and eating! Martha is the most incredible host and hates left overs so we ate and ate, or should I say I ate and ate! I could not get full the entire time, I  was ravenous (pregger probs) I even ate more than my husband.  My most memorable night of the whole trip was the Fourth, where they cooked a shrimp boil (seriously the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten in my entire life)! Then watched the fireworks right off their dock! It was the best day EVER and I did not want it to end.
I wanted to keep my style very nautical and patriotic the entire trip so I packed all the stripes, and red that I had in my closet! As always, everything I wore was UNDER $50! I hope you enjoyed this post and would love to hear your favorite places to see in Seattle, as we will definitely be going back soon!

This weekend in LA the weather was beautiful, and it made me super excited for summer! When I think summer I think the more leg the better 😉 and this J.O.A. dress did not disappoint! I scored this adorable shirt- dress from Marshalls for $29! I love the accent tie- bows on the sleeves, and the blue and white pinstripes. I paired it with silver mules from Nordstromrack (under $40!)!

I have listed my favorite shirt dresses below for under $50! ENJOY!

I love mixing pink and blue, and I found the cutest pink purse from Marshalls for $24.

The sunnies are from Forever21 and UNDER $10!

Back to Basics

California has been getting so much rain and snow this year, that my husband and I decided to pack up and head to Mammoth to hit the slopes. When I say hit the slopes, I mean I literally “hit the slopes” because I am the WORST skier in the world. I have tried skiing a million times but can’t seem to get the hang of it. My husband on the other hand is an expert snowboarder and lives for this time of year!

So I decided last minute that instead of falling on my ass all day on the mountain, I would instead shop, and drink in the village (which was ironic because I took the biggest fall on ice-OUCH!) Mammoth is one of our favorite places to go! It has the sweetest little village, restaurants and shops.

I love putting together looks for weekend trips, but I hate coming home and unpacking! So I decided to pack LESS, in the hopes I still had enough to look FABULESS! I packed very minimal: only two pairs of black fleece leggings, two sweaters, two jackets, and fun winter accessories!

I love these fur earmuffs my sister got me for Christmas! (linked below)

This jacket is now on sale at H&M for $40! (linked below)

Monday Motivation

Let’s be honest, if you are a stay-at– home employee, it can be real tough to get dressed, and beautified. And honestly why would you get all dolled up for the mail man? One of the best things about working from home is you can do it in your coffee stained PJ’s with not a stitch of makeup on, and heck no one would even care if you brushed your teeth that day (gross, but I am the first to admit I have done this).  I have listed some tips, and tricks that will help give you that excitement of dressing for the office without the hassle of that annoying commute.

Drink out of a cute coffee mug!do great things .jpg

Coffee Mug

Whether you drink coffee, or tea, there are so many fun and inspirational coffee cups out there it can be hard to choose. They are also very versatile and can be used to hold your pens, making it a great accent piece for your home office.

Pick your clothes out the night before (NO MORE PAJAMAS) unnamed.jpg

Just like you did when you were in grade- school, picking your clothes the night before will make you feel like you have somewhere to be, and people to see. A casual outfit will help you feel more productive, even if you’re siting comfortably at home. I love working in either an oversized sweater, or a fun OTS top! I also like to wear color. A little pop of color goes a long way, and will help you feel energized throughout the day! (HEY! That rhymes!)

Do your hair! (No makeup required)hair.jpg

Brushing your hair is like brushing your teeth– it will motivate you to get your day going. (I promise!) When you feel good about how you look, not only will it make you feel more productive, it will help set the tone for the rest of the day–TRUST ME!

Find the brightest room in the househome.jpg

Sometimes it’s hard to get motivated if you haven’t stepped outside and experienced the morning rush. However finding a well lit room can be just as effective, and for me it’s my living room. Find a spot with some sun, it will help charge you for the day and sure beats a cubicle!

Get out! Make a coffee or lunch date- with yourself!  coffee pic.jpg

Give yourself a place to go at least once a week. This will help break up the monotony of feeling like you’re a caged working animal. Make a work meeting for yourself, set the deadline and agenda– this will help you work towards milestone each week.

Hope these little tips will help you feel more productive, and motivated for the weeks to come!

Feeling Giddy at the Getty

If you know me you know I love traveling, however it takes a lot of money, effort, and time to plan. Playing tourist in your own city is just as exciting,  but more affordable and accessible. I have visited the Getty Museum in LA countless times, and it NEVER disappoints. There are always new exhibits of art, delicious (but expensive) food (you can totally bring your own and have a picnic on the lawn), and breath-taking views. This week my husband had a weekday off (YAY!), so we headed to the museum and made a day of it! The weather was so beautiful, and this duster dress from H&M was perfect for the breezy  warm day– did I mention it was only $15 on sale ?!

Palm Springs & Palm Trees

Staycations have become our new favorite vacations, and this weekend’s was my favorite! As a kid I remember driving to Disneyland from AZ and being mesmerized by the giant windmills in Palm Springs. Never did I imagine having a romantic weekend there some odd years later! But I can honestly say we had the best time staying at The Parker Palm Springs. From the moment you walk into the hotel you feel like you have been transported back to the 60’s with all the vintage looking decor! The rooms were minimal and modern, with touches of Jonathan Adler throughout.

Planning a trip is one of my favorite things, but planning my outfits is on a whole other level! I always check instagram for inspiration, looking at the destination’s tags to get the vibe.IMG_9976

This weekend I challenged myself to pack only 1 pair of shoes and wear the same accessories with every outfit! I can honestly say operation pack minimal was a success, and I actually wore everything I brought (which never happens due to over packing!) I also accessorized the scarf you see in the picture three different ways, which was super fun to style. BEST $14 ever spent! Every outfit you see is under $100!

Flirty Floral Date Night

Date nights are my favorite nights, especially Fridays when we get a break from hectic schedules! I look forward to just spending time and catching up on the week. I also love styling cute and flirty outfits for these evening nights out. And because LA’s spring is like every other season, shorts are a good investment when you live here. I stumbled upon these C/MEO Collective floral shorts from Marshalls for $29, and I am obsessed with the material (super comfy and soft!). You can dress these shorts up or down – I’ve already started thinking about how I would style them for a day-date. I think this may be my spring uniform, so sorry if you see me in these more than once. 🙂
